Today we are seeing an increasing number of obese children. With an unlimited supply of high fat and calorie foods coupled with a sedentary lifestyle evidence shows that many of our youth are suffering from obesity. There is also evidence of a genetic component that may make some children more prone to obesity than others. Without successful intervention approximately 80% of obese children with suffer with this ailment into adulthood. It is clear that obesity in children is a danger.

With this in mind the question may arise, is Weight Loss advisable for kids and if so should the weight loss be gradual or fast? The short answer is weight loss is advisable only if recommended by a health care physician and developed with help from a professional nutritionist. Gradual weight loss is always safer and this is why a trip to your pediatrician is imperative. Children are naturally energetic with an uncontrollable metabolism which, for the most part, make them impervious it seems to excess weight. However due to factors mentioned before like genetics, emotional instability, unhealthy dietary habits and inactivity a child may quickly lose control.
